South Jordan, UT

The city of South Jordan, UT, lies in the Salt Lake Valley, 18 miles south of Salt Lake City along the banks of the Jordan River. The current population is estimated at roughly 67,000 people, spread throughout a land area of 22 square miles.

South Jordan was established in 1859 by Mormon settlers and incorporated in 1935. Home to the Salt Lake County fairgrounds and dozens of other parks, South Jordan features a long stretch of the Jordan River Parkway, complete with fishing ponds, walking trails and other nature elements.

Today, the South Jordan area stands as a growing bedroom community of Salt Lake City. Construction is underway on the master-planned Daybreak Community for the western half of South Jordan, which could potentially double the city’s population. South Jordan is the first city in the world to house two Mormon Church temples.
