Murray, UT

Known as the “Hub of Salt Lake County,” Murray, UT, is home to upward of 50,000 people. The city is named for the governor of Utah Territory in the later 1800s, covering an area of less than 10 square miles.

Murray was established by Mormon pioneers in 1848, then incorporated more than 50 years later in 1903. Murray’s central location in Salt Lake Valley made it an ideal location for industry, which saw its demise during the Great Depression. Fortunately, Murray’s location allowed the city to rebound as a major retail hub after World War II.

Unlike most surrounding communities, Murray operates its own police, fire, power, water, library and parks departments, plus its own school district. Still, Murray manages to maintain one of the lowest city tax rates in the state. Murray City Park attracts thousands of visitors every year.
